Install the Mac app

Get WatchMyMedia onto your Mac and its server running, in five steps.

You'll need

  • A Mac with macOS 14 or later, with Apple silicon or Intel.
  1. Download the app

Get the newest version from the Download page. Your browser saves a file called WatchMyMedia-0.4.4.dmg, usually in your Downloads folder.

    Download for Mac

Version 0.4.4 · 131 MB · macOS 14 or later · Apple silicon and Intel

  2. Drag WatchMyMedia to Applications

Double-click the file you downloaded. A window called WatchMyMedia opens, with the app and an Applications folder in it. Drag the WatchMyMedia icon onto the Applications folder.

The window that opens; the icons may sit elsewhere on your Mac. Once the app has copied, you can close it and eject the WatchMyMedia disk in Finder's sidebar.
  3. Open WatchMyMedia

In Finder, choose Applications in the sidebar and double-click WatchMyMedia. Open it from there, not from the disk image window.

The first time, macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Choose Open. It doesn't ask again.

No window opens, and nothing appears in the Dock. WatchMyMedia lives in the menu bar at the top of your screen: look for a play button in a circle, near the clock. The server starts by itself as soon as the app opens.

  4. Click the icon to open the menu. The grey lines tell you what's happening; the white ones are things you can choose. Before you've set up your server, it looks like this:

Before setup, the menu also says Finish setup in the browser.

What each line means, from the top:

  5. Turn on Launch at Login

Open the menu and choose Launch at Login. A check mark appears beside it. Now WatchMyMedia opens by itself whenever you log in to your Mac, so the server is back after a restart. Your other screens can watch while the Mac is on and awake.

You're done when the menu says Server running · port 27587.
